The Restless Quarter is an expanding propositional archive of the city broken down and reconstituted so that that it can shift according to climate change events (meteorological and geopolitical). Assisted by strategically located participants, The Restless Quarter collects - and borrows from - existing mobile structures and itinerant services found on the streets of contemporary cities.
It asks those in the business of "defuturing" our cities to confront what design theorist Tony Fry has called the impending age of unsettlement and begin welcoming ways of living that are dynamic, responsive and opportunistic.
.Makeshift are a Sydney-based collaborative whose site-responsive works appear as participatory, durational interventions shaped by communities, in which a kind of "fabulist archaeology" makes visible contested histories and possible futures. These projects involve opening up spaces of dialogue or exchange, marking time to slow down and be attentive, and a revaluing of obscured cultural knowledge, histories and practices. Makeshift has been featured in exhibitions such as If you were to live here - 5th Auckland Triennial (Fresh Gallery, Auckland), Spaced: Art Out of Place (Fremantle Arts Centre, Perth), and In the Balance: Art for a Changing World (Museum of Contemporary Art, Sydney).
